Our story

Started by a cadet, grown into a team

When it was time to prepare for the MMD oral, there was nothing to study from. No syllabus, no structured notes, just a list of questions passed between seniors.

So we started collecting them: from seniors, from forums, from candidates walking out of their orals. We sorted them by topic and wrote notes around what surveyors were really asking.

That collection became Elec-Buddy. It now covers the oral and written parts of the CoC and the sponsorship stage, in the browser and in apps for Windows and Android. New recollections still come in after every sitting, and the notes are checked against them.

A message from our founder

I started Elec-Buddy for myself. As a cadet preparing for my exams, I went looking for a syllabus and found there wasn't one. Nothing told me where to start or where to begin. All there was were questions, passed from one batch to the next.

So I began collecting them. Topic by topic and sitting by sitting, the collection grew, until it was clear other cadets needed it as much as I did. That is how this venture began, and somehow it has brought us here.

What drives it hasn't changed. I want to make life easier for cadets, for their exams and for everything that comes after. If Elec-Buddy gives you a clear place to start, it has done its job.

A word from our CEO

Elec-Buddy began with one cadet's notes, and my job is to help it grow without losing what made it useful: real questions, checked answers, and a team that listens to the cadets who use it.

Every sitting, every recollection a candidate shares and every message to our support inbox shapes what we build next. We are building this for the long run, alongside every cadet who trusts us with their preparation.

Founder · Chairman

Started Elec-Buddy from his own notes as a cadet, and chairs the company. Still writes and checks much of the course content.

Adith Venugopal

Chief Executive Officer · Grievance Officer

Sets the direction of the company and leads the team. Also the person to contact with a complaint or grievance.

Yadhu Krishnan

Chief Financial Officer

Looks after the company's finances, pricing and payments.

Rahul Nair

Chief Operations Officer · Chief Security Officer

Runs day-to-day operations and keeps the work moving. Looks after the security of the platform, the accounts and the course content.

Built from real sittings

Candidates tell us what they were asked as they come out of the oral. Each question is filed by surveyor and topic, given a model answer, and decides what we write next.

Checked against the source

Answers are checked against SOLAS, MARPOL, class rules and makers' manuals. Where something is uncertain, the page says so instead of guessing.

Written for people returning to study

Formulas are derived step by step, so an officer who has been at sea for years can follow the reasoning and handle the surveyor's follow-up question.
