These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Elec-Buddy, an exam preparation platform for marine Electro-Technical Officers (ETOs) studying for MMD and STCW oral and written examinations, available through our website and web application (together, the "Service").
By creating an account, starting a free trial, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
Throughout these Terms, "Elec-Buddy", "we", "us", and "our" refer to the operator of the Service. "You" and "your" refer to the individual using the Service.
Elec-Buddy provides study notes, quiz questions, numerical problem walkthroughs, diagrams, and a bank of real surveyor questions and answers, organised around the oral and written syllabus for ETO certification. Content is delivered through a web application and is accessible to a signed-in subscriber on up to three registered devices at a time, as described in section 9.
We may add, remove, or modify content, features, or the layout of the Service at any time to improve accuracy, coverage, or usability. We will make reasonable efforts to keep active subscribers informed of material changes to what their plan covers.
You must provide a valid email address and accurate account details to register. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and for all activity that occurs under your account.
One account is intended for use by one individual. Sharing your login credentials with another person, or allowing another person to access the Service using your account, is a breach of these Terms and may result in suspension or termination without refund.
You must notify us promptly at support@elec-buddy.com if you become aware of any unauthorised use of your account.
New accounts receive a free 3-day trial with full access to both the Oral and Written sections, no payment required. After the trial ends, continued access requires an active paid subscription.
Paid plans are sold by content scope (Written only, Oral only, or both) and by duration (3, 6, or 12 months). Current pricing, scope, and duration for each plan are displayed within the app before you pay and are not part of these Terms, since they change from time to time.
Access to a given section (Written or Oral) runs until that section's own expiry date. If you hold active access to a section and purchase further time for that same section, the new period is added on top of your existing access rather than replacing it, so you never lose time you have already paid for.
Elec-Buddy is a fixed-term subscription, not an auto-renewing one. Access simply ends on the expiry date shown in your account unless you choose to purchase further access.
All payments are processed in Indian Rupees (INR) through Razorpay, a third-party payment gateway. We do not collect or store your card, UPI, or net banking details; these are handled directly by Razorpay under its own security standards.
Prices displayed in the app are inclusive of any applicable taxes unless stated otherwise. A payment confirmation, including the plan purchased and the resulting access dates, is emailed to you once your payment is verified.
Payments are non-refundable. Because the trial exists precisely to let you confirm the Service is right for you before you pay, and because access to digital study content is granted immediately and in full upon payment, we do not offer refunds once a purchase is completed.
This does not affect any right you may have under applicable law to a refund for a duplicate charge or a genuine billing error. If you believe you were charged incorrectly, contact support@elec-buddy.com and we will look into it. Beyond correcting genuine errors, refunds may still be granted at our sole discretion in exceptional circumstances, but this is not a right you can rely on when purchasing.
All content made available through the Service, including but not limited to study notes, quiz questions and answers, numerical problem solutions, diagrams and illustrations, the Surveyor Q&A bank, and any accompanying video material, is the original work of Elec-Buddy or is used under licence, and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. This content is referred to below as "Elec-Buddy Content".
The name "Elec-Buddy", the Elec-Buddy logo, and associated branding are trademarks of Elec-Buddy. Whether or not formally registered, we claim and intend to enforce ownership of this name and branding, and no licence to use them is granted except as expressly stated in these Terms.
Subject to your compliance with these Terms and for as long as you hold an active trial or paid subscription, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and view Elec-Buddy Content within the app, solely for your own exam preparation. No other rights are granted.
Except as strictly necessary for your own personal, non-commercial study within the app, you must not:
To protect Elec-Buddy Content on behalf of every paying subscriber, the Service applies technical measures including but not limited to per-user watermarking, encryption of content at rest, and deterrents against copying and screen capture. These measures are disclosed here so that any attempt to circumvent them is understood, without ambiguity, to be a deliberate breach of these Terms.
A breach of this section is treated as a serious violation of these Terms. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate, without refund, the account of anyone who copies, redistributes, or otherwise misuses Elec-Buddy Content or branding, and to pursue any other remedy available to us under applicable law, including claims for damages.
If you come across Elec-Buddy Content being shared, sold, or redistributed anywhere outside the Service without our authorisation, please report it to support@elec-buddy.com.
In addition to the intellectual property restrictions above, you agree not to:
The free trial is offered once per person, so that you can judge the Service before paying for it. Any attempt to obtain further free trials, or to misuse the Service by any other means, will have consequences. That includes registering under a second email address, using a disposable or temporary mail provider, varying an address you have already registered with, and any other method intended to reset, extend, or share free access.
We monitor for this, by a number of means which we do not publish. Where we are satisfied that an account exists to abuse free access or otherwise breach these Terms, we may remove that account and any related accounts immediately, without prior notice or warning, and no refund is due on anything already paid. We may also decline to provide the Service to the same person again.
We consider the full circumstances before acting. If you believe an account has been removed in error, write to support@elec-buddy.com and we will look at it.
Each account may be used on up to three registered devices at a time. This limit exists to keep individual subscriptions from being shared between multiple people, and is part of what keeps the Service affordable. We may adjust the limit from time to time.
You are in control of which three. Your devices are listed under Profile → Settings → Signed in devices, and removing one frees a slot immediately, so changing phone or laptop never requires contacting us. We do not sign a device out on your behalf to make room for another.
A device is identified by a random value your browser stores locally, not by your location or by any measurement of your hardware. Clearing your browser data therefore looks like a new device and will use a slot; you can remove the old entry yourself at any time.
You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity that takes place under your account. Sharing your login is a breach of these Terms.
Elec-Buddy Content is prepared and reviewed carefully, drawing on real MMD surveyor questions, official regulations, and standard engineering references, and is regularly updated. However, examination formats, surveyor expectations, and regulations can change, and no study material can guarantee a particular outcome.
What the Service offers is a compiled, cross-checked and reorganised digest of material that already exists across many sources, including official publications and regulations, standard engineering references, published question banks, training material, and questions recollected by candidates and surveyors. Its value is in gathering that material into one place, verifying it, and structuring it for revision. It is not an original syllabus, and it does not claim to reproduce the whole of every source it draws on.
Depth of coverage varies between topics and is expanded over time. Some areas are treated in far more detail than others. An examiner may ask about anything within the syllabus, including matters the Service does not address at all. You remain responsible for consulting the official publications and your approved training material, for drawing on your own onboard experience, and for satisfying yourself that your overall preparation is adequate.
The Service is a study and revision aid. It is not a substitute for your own seagoing experience, formal training, or professional judgement, and Elec-Buddy does not guarantee that using the Service will result in you passing any examination or assessment.
The Service relies on third-party providers to operate, including Supabase for our database and authentication, Razorpay for payment processing, and Resend for transactional email. Your use of the Service is also subject to the applicable terms of these providers where you interact with them directly, such as when entering payment details with Razorpay.
You may delete your account at any time from Profile → Settings → Delete account. Deletion takes effect after a 30 day grace period, during which you may cancel it by signing in and choosing Keep my account. Deleting your account does not entitle you to a refund for any unused portion of a subscription, and any remaining paid access is lost. What is deleted and what is retained is set out in our Privacy Policy.
You may stop using the Service at any time. To request deletion of your account and associated data, contact support@elec-buddy.com.
We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms, particularly the intellectual property and acceptable use sections above. Termination for breach does not entitle you to a refund of any amount already paid.
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Elec-Buddy shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising out of or relating to your use of the Service. Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid to Elec-Buddy in the six months preceding the claim.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under applicable law.
You agree to indemnify and hold Elec-Buddy harmless from any claim, loss, or damage, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of your breach of these Terms or your misuse of Elec-Buddy Content.
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in India.
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes to the Service, our pricing structure, or applicable law. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent version. Continued use of the Service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
